Our history

From our humble beginnings, Stockyard has grown into a multi-generational business producing the finest beef savoured around the world. For over 65 years, we've built a legacy rooted in our deep passion for what we do, the animals we care for, and the land we’re privileged to nurture and protect.

Robin Hart, Founder of Stockyard

Founded by Robin and Del Hart in 1958, our journey began at the Eidsvold property, where they nurtured their passion for cattle breeding. In 1965, they established the Kerwee feedlot at “Berwick,” supplying local butcher shops with quality beef.

A pivotal trip to Japan in 1969 transformed our focus, inspiring the Hart family to create a premium beef product that satisfied the discerning tastes for flavour, tenderness, and aroma. This unwavering commitment to excellence led to the establishment of Stockyard Meat Packers in 1973, paving the way for our global presence.

Today, Stockyard is synonymous with quality, boasting a finishing capacity that has grown from 200 to over 20,000 cattle. Our grain-fed beef brand stands as Australia’s most awarded, reflecting our dedication to sustainability, quality, and the values that have guided us for generations. We continue to honour our legacy, passionately nurturing the land and the animals that sustain us.

Kerwee

Nestled in the heart of Queensland’s Darling Downs, Kerwee is more than just a farm—it’s a testament to thoughtful stewardship. Spanning 1,280 hectares of rich soils and abundant pastures, Kerwee nurtures our Wagyu and Angus herds. With pure water drawn from the ancient Great Artesian Basin and surrounded by a region steeped in agricultural tradition, this land thrives. Here, our cattle graze freely before entering a world class feedlot, where every detail is crafted for their wellbeing. At Kerwee, we honour the land, the animals, and the legacy we’re building, ensuring each step is taken with care and precision.

Kingsgate Station

Kingsgate Station is where the soul of Stockyard’s Wagyu heritage takes root. Spanning 11,878 hectares in New England’s breathtaking landscape, it’s more than a breeding ground—it’s where generations of passion come to life. With rolling hills, river frontage, and fertile grazing land, Kingsgate nurtures our fullblood and crossbred Wagyu herds. Rich in history and tradition, its very soil carries the promise of tomorrow.
