Stockyard Beef selected as a 15th Annual President’s Medal Finalist

In a first for grain-fed beef, Stockyard is incredibly proud to be listed as one of six finalists in the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW’s 15th Annual President’s Medal.

Going beyond the product’s attributes of flavour and presentation, the President’s Medal, which began in 2006, explores the overall production cycle of each finalist, including their commercial success, their environmental footprint, and their social impact, making it the first and only award in Australia to judge producers against a triple bottom line.

Lachie Hart, Managing Director of Stockyard commented, “What a privilege it is to be recognised not only as leaders in quality products, but also as an example of how Australian grain-fed beef can be an asset to our economy, environment and community.

In an industry that faces increased scrutiny over our production, awards like this help shift the narrative towards the truth – Australians have so much to be proud of when speaking about our beef production. We are at the precipice of some hugely exciting changes that build upon decades of investment into our regional community, team members and animal wellbeing.”

Our Stockyard Black label was eligible for the award after receiving a grand champion, champion and gold medal at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show in late 2021.

Drawing from Sydney Royal Champions across all 2021 Sydney Royal Wine, Dairy and Fine Food Competitions, Stockyard was selected from more than 4,000 entrants.

Sydney Royal President’s Medal Chair, Lachlan Bowtell, said the award represents the pinnacle of agricultural excellence, celebrating producers’ innovation and contributions to their communities and the wider industry.

“The President’s Medal is a true testament to great Australian quality. It examines producers from a whole company perspective and acknowledges achievements in areas such as sustainability, innovation, and social enterprise,” Mr Bowtell said.

“This year’s finalists have gone beyond creating an outstanding quality product; they are at the forefront of agricultural innovation and are instrumental in driving the Australian produce industry to new heights.”

Stockyard joins five other exceptional producers including:

Shottesbrooke Vineyards in Adelaide, SA, for its 2020 Shottesbroke Single Vineyard Series ‘Adelaide Hills’ Chardonnay

Pecora Dairy in Robertson, NSW, for its Yarrawa Cheese

Tathra Oysters in Tathra, NSW, for its Nelson Lake Bistro Cylinder Oyster

Sunshine Meats in Milperra, NSW, for its Smoked Duck Breast

Rio Vista Olives in Mypolonga, SA, for its Chilli Pressed Olive Oil

To determine this year’s winner, President’s Medal Judges, Ed Halmagyi and Michael Bullen, will take to the road to visit each finalist at their business location.

The winner of the 15th Annual President’s Medal will be announced at the President’s Medal Dinner, held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, during the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
