Lachie Hart, Chair of the Stockyard Group (Stockyard), has been elected as a Non-Executive Director to the Meat & Livestock Australia’s (MLA) Board at the 2024 Annual General Meeting held in Tamworth this afternoon.
Lachie brings over 40 years of extensive experience within the red meat supply chain to his newly appointed position. Until January 2024, Lachie was the Managing Director of Stockyard, a third-generation family business operating across the beef supply chain, including the management of Kerwee Feedlot, a 20,000 head feedlot in Jondaryan, on Queensland’s Darling Downs, and Wagyu breeding and backgrounding operations near Glen Innes, NSW and Yea, VIC. Notably, Stockyard is responsible for the marketing and distribution of its award-winning branded beef to over 20 global markets as well as here in Australia.
Upon his appointment, Lachie expressed his commitment to driving growth in the industry. “I am deeply passionate about the industry and the phenomenal advancements being done to enhance our sector. It’s an honour to give back to the industry that has been so good to me and helped shape my career,” he said. “I look forward to collaborating with all industry stakeholders to continue to drive our industry forward.”
Under his leadership, Stockyard is recognised as an industry leader in sustainability and innovation, known for integrating novel products into its supply chain. Recently, the business partnered on Australia’s first agricultural sustainability-linked loan and facilitated crucial research into methane-reducing feed additives that has potentially opened pathways for other farmers to introduce these supplements into their operations.
Lachie’s experience extends well beyond Stockyard; he has served as the former Chair of the Australian Meat Industry Council, the industry’s Market Access Advisory Committee and the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Taskforce, as well as a Director of the Red Meat Advisory Council. He is also a current Non-Executive Director on the Foundation Board of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia – Queensland Section.
