Stockyard appoints new chair
It is with much sadness that we announce that John Massey will be stepping down from his role as Chair and Non-Executive Director of Stockyard Group from today.
John has been involved with the board of Stockyard for 22 years with the last 2 years as Chair having taken over from Stockyard Founder, Robin Hart in January 2019.
Over his time serving on the board, he has steered the business through periods of consolidation and of growth, including navigating a joint venture; the sale of an abattoir; the addition of our Wagyu brands and expansion of our Kerwee Feedlot from 7,000 head when he first started to over 20,000 head today.
With broadly based commercial experience spanning many industries for nearly 50 years, his steady and broad-view guidance has been invaluable to the Stockyard business.
Lachie Hart, Managing Director of Stockyard, said: “The Hart Family owe a great deal of our success to John’s valuable advice and wisdom. John has been instrumental in guiding Stockyard through the highs and lows over the last 22 years. He will be sorely missed but will forever be a member of the Stockyard Family.”
Stepping into John’s position as Chair is existing Non-Executive Director Sarah Zeljko. Sarah joined the board in late 2020 and has already made a strong contribution across the organisation’s corporate governance and growth strategy.
Sarah has had a successful executive career with wide-ranging commercial experience and, prior to her transition into board roles, was involved as General Counsel and Company Secretary across a range of large ASX listed, government and private corporations. Sarah is also currently a non-executive director of Powerlink, LGIA Super, Unitywater, Verbrec (ASX:VBC) and Chairs a Not for Profit start up called Uniq You. She comes from a strong background in family businesses, having proudly managed and expanded her own second-generation family-led organisation.
Sarah will be the first female chair in the organisation’s 63-year history.
Stockyard has produced and marketed high quality grain fed beef since 1958 and today distributes Wagyu and Angus beef product to around 20 international markets across Asia, Europe, USA and the Middle East. Today, the company remains proudly 100% family owned and operated.
